There are so many suggestions on what to eat and what not to eat when you have reflux…

No chocolate, no red wine, no tomato products, no citrus.

There is an interesting fact about these recommendations: None of them are based on science. There aren’t any studies to prove that patients with reflux who avoid particular foods improve on their reflux symptoms (or that certain foods actually increase reflux). Foods do not change the function of the valve between the stomach and esophagus; however, certain foods may irritate the esophagus and cause reflux-type symptoms.

So the take home message is: If you eat something and it doesn’t agree with you, then avoid it. If you can have a glass of wine or some chocolate and it does not bother you – enjoy!
