I am a 36 year retired Army Veteran so I don't waste time being flowery. If you have a hietal hernia, you need to get it fixed. Dr. Woodworth is not only a gifted surgeon, he is a warm, personable, caring doctor. My first appointment with him was a zoom call. I explained my long journey with a gastroenterologist, including three endoscopies, a stretching of my esophagus, and diagnosis of a hiatal hernia. I was given a prescription for meds, which I avoided taking. Opting to watch my diet and take supplements, instead. This was merely a bandaid. The heartburn and acid reflux worsened, and at times I had intense chest pains. I developed a cough that caused choking at meals. A friend referred me to Dr. Woodworth, and after listening to my complaints, without hesitation said he could help me. My surgery went well, and my symptoms disappeared immediately. I consider it a miracle. I highly recommend Dr. Woodworth and his amazing staff.

I was pleased with Dr Phillip Woodworth’s expertise in Esophageal and Reflux surgery. Also that he is very high rated in robotic and laparoscopic surgery. I was very nervous going into my initial appointment with Dr. Woodworth. Within the first few seconds, all of that anxiety goes away once you meet him. Dr. Woodworth destroys the stigma of just going into a doctors office by imediately wanting to get to know you and what makes you tick. The Dr. was wonderful and explained what was needed to fix my hernia. His receptionist, nurse and staff were very efficient, terrific and helpful. My only problem was getting the initial appointment. The people in the Phillipines handling that missed my GI doctors referral, I had to call, then the lady I dealt with was very nice, but she explained that someone else aslo makes the Drs. appointment, so she couldn't fit me in for 6 weeks. In all fairness after we set the date she did have a cancelation, but that was when I was out of town, then she lost the original date she booked me with. It was confusing.

As a patient in 2025 for a hiatal hernia and GERD, I experienced consistent friendly politeness, notable efficiency, appropriate communications for Dr. Woodworth and his excellent staff. Dr. Woodworth from beginning to end responded quickly to find and implement a solution to a hiatal hernia, with damage to the esophagus from reflux. Surgery was minimally invasive with the Da Vinci robot. Post surgery is progressing well!! I would highly recommended Dr. Woodworth to anyone considering esophageal and reflux issues. It's a six hour drive to his clinic from home, well worth the drive.

Dr. Woodworth, Claire, Brittney, and Rachel are all awesome. I’ve had a very good surgical outcome following hiatal hernia repair and a partial fundoplication in July 2025. I had some lasting issues swallowing liquids, so Dr. Woodworth dilated the fundoplication yesterday to help with that and helped guide me that the risk of recurrent reflux was worth it when traded with the long term risk of not swallowing well. He is a compassionate and caring provider who both listens and tailors the care plan to your individual needs. The nursing team at IER has answered my many, many questions with lots of details and compassion. Additionally IER has dedicated increased support to their front office and their quality has improved immensely in the year I’ve worked with them for scheduling and questions.

At a time when most medical offices are shutting down for Christmas with no open appointments until January, I sent a note to Dr. Woodworth's office about a health change and a question. That same day (!) Dr. Woodworth personally called me and answered my question and more. In a world where getting an appointment with a doctor for simply a consultation is complex and takes time, i.e., appointment waiting time now averages 60 days, this was truly amazing and says so much about Dr. Woodworth's personal care for his patients, even when he surgical skills are in such high demand.

Dr. Woodworth was recommended to me by my primary care provider in COS because of my hiatal hernia, GERD symptoms and chronic cough. Another patient in the practice I go to had good results from the LINX procedure so I wanted to find out more about that. Dr. Woodworth explained both the LINX procedure and the partial fundiplication procedure at the initial appointment. He took the time to answer all of my questions. I never felt rushed. Because of his staff’s foresight I was able to get one of three tests done in the office that day. I went back to Sky Ridge campus for two other tests and then for a follow up appointment. In the follow-up appointment, I felt Dr. Woodworth listened to my concerns and my hopes for the surgery. We ultimately decided on hiatal hernia repair and the LINX procedure. I was given pre-op directions and specific 5-day pre-op diet instructions. I was also given post-op directions and diet so I would know what to expect and have food and equipment on hand for after the surgery. My surgery was on Tuesday so I am 3 days post-op. I have had minimal pain and I am already noticing an improvement in my gastric reflux symptoms and chronic cough. I found Dr. Woodworth to be thorough, knowledgeable and skilled. He made me feel confident in my decision on the type of surgery to have and in him as my surgeon.

I'm a 66 year old male who prior to my July 30, 2025 inguinal hernia surgery has NEVER had surgery since I was 7 or 8 years old (tonsils out) so to say I was nervous and little scared would be putting is mildly. However from the time I arrived at Smith Medical to have the surgery done was NOTHING but an awesome experience. Dr. Woodworth and the WHOLE staff at Smith Medical was nothing short of spectacular! Dr. Woodworth came out before the surgery to assure me and my sister (person responsible for me for 24 hours after surgery) that everything is on track and answered any questions and to put me at ease. After the surgery Dr. Woodworth took the time to inform my sister that everything had gone as planned (with a couple minor issues that had to be corrected while in surgery). At this point in time the pain is not nearly as bad as what I was expecting (sure the pain meds are helping with that). Now it's up to me to do the rights things to keep the surgery successful (i.e., stay on pain med routine for a few days, take it easy, no lifting, etc.). I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Woodworth and the WHOLE staff at Smith Medical. Everyone was very professional, calming, caring and very knowledgeable. Thank you to everyone for all that you've done!! Dr. Woodworth is great. Very considerate and accommodating. I was expecting a considerable amount of pain and immobility after my procedure, since this has been my experience with two other abdominal procedures. However, I was up and about from day one (still proceeding with caution, of course). My only negative comments come from the Tebra, Kareo, SOFI Research, and Telehealth systems. I don’t generally click on cryptic links or accept calls from unknown sources (security clearance). So, communication with the medical team was extremely disjointed unless I contacted someone directly and they informed me that one of the aforementioned services was legitimate. Those correspondences need to be more clear, or come from a “known” health organization like a medical office or hospital. I’m basically a rocket scientist who designs spacecraft payloads for a living, but keeping track of which organization I needed to log into, register with, or download from as I was digging through countless junk mail and texts was apparently near my cognitive limit.

Originally I had severe pain in my groin area with more pain upon flexion if I stood for longer periods of time. CAT scan showed bilateral hernias and I figured unfortunately I needed surgery. Dr. Woodworth checked me out and said he'd love to fix the hernias however with his thorough exam he believed a surgery was not warranted and believed I had a groin sprain/strain. Thankfully we didn't do any surgery and after taking it easy as directed I believe I am at 100%! The ease of scheduling the appointment, the arrival and check in, the time spent with the nurse, Dr. Woodworth and the full use of our visit was absolutely IMMACULATE! Each and every person in this office was kind, efficient and so helpful. Scheduled me for all of the testing I'd need so I didn't have to come back up from Pueblo. Had a full appointment with all of the necessary questions that Dr. asked and was so thorough. He actually listened and had valuable input. Scheduled for my surgery in July(earliest my schedule would allow) and I'm so optimistic for what Dr. Woodworth will be taking care of for me and treating my issues. I'll leave feedback once surgery is complete as well so there's a follow up coming soon. Do not hesitate to call and get your appointment scheduled with Dr. Woodworth. You will be utterly impressed with his knowledge, his expertise and bedside manner. Very professional but down to earth. I have had a chronic cough and issues with acid reflux for almost 15 years. I was passed from specialists to specialists for 15 years with no real look at what was actually causing all of this. Dr Woodworth explained my procedure in depth. During surgery he found additional issues related to my condition. He repaired everything and explained I could be in pain for several weeks. I had a full Nissen Fundoplication in 2005 and it had loosened over the years. I contacted 2 medical facilities in 2019 to have it redone because of my acid reflex issues. I was told that it was complicated because of a hiatal hernia and might be dangerous due to my age and respiratory underlying conditions. I was recently prescribed a more potent reflex medication. I was referred to Dr. Woodworth by the National Jewish Health in Denver. I was able to schedule an appointment fairly quickly. Dr. Woodworth performed a robotic labroascopic redo surgery for me. The hernia was removed and a partial fundoplication was done. I was very happy as this is what I wanted done in 2019. Three weeks out and I am healing well from the surgery with no more reflux. I would definitely recommend Dr. Woodworth to anyone who is seeking a nissan redo surgery.

Everything from the initial pre-op appointment to the post surgery departure was excellent. Although swallowing is still somewhat not normal, I understand that it’s only been four days post surgery and that things need to heal and scar before things back to normal. It does get better day by day and look forward to being ant-acid medication free and no longer have chronic heartburn.

My experience was wonderful with Dr. Bell and his staff. I was admitted to Sky Ridge on an emergency GI bleed that was being caused by my Hiatal Hernia. The general surgeon on call at the hospital wanted to do surgery very quickly. I did not get a good feel from her, so I canceled my surgery, and got released from the hospital on a Saturday. I did my research over the weekend and saw that Dr. Bell was highly recommended and qualified to do the surgery. So I called the office on Monday morning, explained my situation and amazingly, they got me in that afternoon to see me. Both Dr. Bell and Kat his NP, were so comforting and informative. Dr. Bell arranged me to have surgery the next day…Tuesday. He stayed late on his surgery day to fit me in. That is what an outstanding doctor and human being he is. My surgery went extremely well. And I know I made the right decision by having him do the surgery. My best advice to anyone that needs a Hiatal Hernia surgery, please go to a foregut specialist, and try to go to Dr. Bell. He is truly amazing, you won’t regret it. Do not have a general surgeon do the surgery.
