The Bravo Capsule pH test measures acidity levels in the esophagus through use of a vitamin-sized capsule. This capsule is equipped with a sensor that wirelessly transmits the data to a receiver carried by the patient.

The Bravo Capsule is placed into the esophagus using a catheter that is inserted through the mouth. The capsule stays in place using suction and will remain in the esophagus for a period of three to seven days before it dislodges and passes through the body. The test monitors acid levels in the esophagus over a 48-to-96-hour period. Because the capsule monitors levels of acid, you need to be off any reflux medications for seven days prior to the test. This capsule can be placed unsedated in the office, or at the time of an endoscopy.
