Stretta: A Minimally Invasive and Effective Treatment for Managing the Symptoms of GERD

For many people, medications for chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) either do not provide the relief they need or are an insufficient option for long-term treatment. For those who do not have adequate relief from medications, or want an alternative, we offer multiple surgical options for treating GERD, including minimally invasive procedures.

People in search of a minimally invasive option that can properly control their chronic GERD can find the relief they need with Stretta. Stretta treats chronic GERD by using radiofrequency energy to treat the weakened muscles that are allowing the stomach fluid to rise up into the esophagus.

The radiofrequency energy is applied to the area using an electrode that is attached to a flexible catheter inserted into the esophagus. The radiofrequency emitted by the electrode will heat up the tissue, causing it to become thicker so that it is a more effective barrier against the stomach fluids rising up into the esophagus.

Studies have shown that Stretta is a safe and effective treatment for managing the symptoms of GERD. On average, the results from treatments with Stretta last for a minimum of four years and can last for up to 10 years. Because Stretta is a non-surgical and minimally invasive option, patients treated with Stretta will still be able to undergo surgical treatments for their GERD should their condition worsen.

During your initial consultation with board-certified general surgeon Dr. Reginald Bell, he will perform a thorough evaluation of your condition to help you understand if Stretta is an effective treatment for your GERD and will recommend an appropriate course of action for your treatment. If you are in need of a safe and effective treatment for managing your GERD symptoms, contact the Center for Esophageal Wellness to schedule a consultation.
