What You Need to Know About LINX

For years, the best option for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was a surgical procedure known as a Nissen fundoplication. While this procedure was capable of treating GERD, there was a high risk of experiencing a number of side effects as a result of the procedure.

Over the years, a number of advancements have been made to the procedure. It can now be performed laparoscopically, which helps to reduce discomfort and significantly reduce the amount of time needed to recover from the procedure.

In 2012, Dr Bell started implanting the LINX Reflux Management System in appropriate patients. The LINX Reflux Management System is a small device that is laparoscopically implanted around the lower esophagus. LINX has been shown to be an incredibly effective option for managing GERD.

Here are just a few of the advantages of LINX:

  • Treats the cause of GERD, not just the symptoms
  • Is safer than using long-term proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)
  • Is a minimally invasive procedure
  • Allows for the device to be removed or replaced if needed
  • Produces minimal side effects that, for most patients, disappear over time

It is important to remember that LINX is not always the best option for treating advanced GERD. Dr Bell will carefully review your test results with you and determine if LINX is the right choice for you.

If you are suffering from GERD and would like to know what your best treatment option is, contact Institute of Esophageal and Reflux Surgery to schedule a consultation with board-certified general surgeon Dr. Reginald Bell.
