Why Acid Reflux Medications Do Not Provide You with the Care You Need

At Center for Esophageal Wellness, we provide thorough and accurate diagnostic testing and surgical treatments for foregut issues. We aim to help as many individuals as we can to manage their foregut issues so that they can live normal and satisfying lives.

Acid reflux is one of the more common issues we treat. You may have experienced acid reflux, heartburn, or some form of indigestion at some point in your life. Many people find relief using heartburn relief medication, and for those suffering from minor and infrequent episodes of acid reflux, these medications can help to manage and reduce discomfort.

Unfortunately, there are many people in the world who are not receiving the care and treatments they need because they believe they are properly managing their foregut issues using medications like Prilosec OTC and Nexium. These medications do not treat the actual source of the issues – they simply help to manage symptoms.

When ingested, these medications reduce the amount of acid in the stomach. The issue is that our stomachs need acid to properly function. Although some temporary relief may be provided, the actual cause of the problem is not being treated, and a slew of other medical issues may also arise due to the use of these medications.

The actual cause of reflux issues is a faulty valve located between the esophagus and stomach. Reducing the amount of acid in the stomach will not correct the valve, and the issues can become severe if not properly treated.

If you are having difficulty managing your reflux issues, please contact Center for Esophageal Wellness to schedule a consultation with Dr. Reginald Bell. We will provide you with the diagnostic testing you need to know the extent of the issue, and we will recommend an appropriate course of action for your treatment.
