Why Do I Need a Transnasal Endoscopy

During your appointment with Dr. Reginald Bell, he may recommend that you receive a transnasal endoscopy (TNE). Rather than more traditional forms of endoscopy, which use the mouth as an access point, a TNE uses the nasal passages to gain access to the larynx, esophagus, lower esophageal sphincter, and stomach so they can be properly evaluated. The TNE is more convenient for patients, as there is no sedation, so you can drive yourself and return to work or usual activities right after the appointment.

During a TNE, you will have some numbing medicine placed in your nose to help with the discomfort. A small tube with a camera on the end of it will be passed through your nose and into your stomach and esophagus. The entire procedure lasts two to three minutes. This gives Dr Bell an opportunity to understand your anatomy, along with other testing, so he can offer you individualized recommendations for treatment.
